The Challenge
Following a vessel collision with a jetty, Arthian was urgently engaged to assess the extent of structural damage and determine whether the jetty could safely remain in operation.
The impact caused localised damage to steel tubular piles and the reinforced concrete deck, including denting of piles and spalling of concrete with exposed reinforcement.
The client required rapid engineering input to support operational decisions and minimise disruption to a critical petrochemical facility.
The Solution
Arthian provided an immediate engineering response, reviewing diver inspection data, photographs, and existing asset records to carry out a rapid structural assessment.
This initial phase was prioritised to confirm whether the jetty could remain in service. The assessment concluded that, despite localised damage, the structure remained serviceable for continued operation, although capacity to resist further impact was reduced.
Following this, Arthian developed detailed repair solutions for both the damaged piles and the jetty deck. These included practical, buildable repair methodologies and a prioritised programme to address defects and maintain long-term durability.
Outcomes
- Rapid response enabling continued jetty operation
- Confirmed structural serviceability following impact
- Identified risks associated with further collision
- Delivered repair designs for piles and deck
- Supported safe, risk-managed continuation of operations
Project Insight
A phased approach allowed Arthian to provide immediate assurance to maintain operations, followed by targeted repair solutions to restore long-term structural integrity.
