Secondary Containment Inspections for Upper Tier COMAH Sites

Arthian carried out inspections of Secondary Containment bunds located across multiple UK installations for an Upper Tier COMAH operator. The purpose of the secondary containment inspections was to identify the current condition/integrity of various secondary containment assets and report to the Client, to inform short term decision making and future maintenance requirements.

Using our internally developed Written Scheme of Inspection, the team ensured full alignment with CIRIA C736 and the COMAH Containment Policy.

To ensure every aspect of the inspection was thorough, accurate and traceable, Arthian implemented a multi‑stage methodology:

• Task Specific RAMS Planning: detailed RAMS were prepared for all activities, supporting efficient coordination with the Client and ensuring all permit and access requirements were agreed well in advance.
• Defect Identification & Recording: during the site inspections, all visible defects were measured, photographed and the location marked providing an immediate and tangible record of each bund’s condition.
• Comprehensive Visual Evidence: photographs were compiled and cross referenced with the inspection findings to provide a clear visual narrative for the Client’s asset teams.
• Clear Deliverables & Risk Visibility: the final reporting pack supplied the Client with comprehensive information to allow understanding of current condition, compliance and recommendations with regards to prioritisation of repairs and upgrades.
