The Solution
Good practice levels for energy management were established with Arthian advisory support, together with the recommended targets for reductions/ energy performance improvements based on calculated savings rather than any arbitrary % or figure. Monitoring, measurement and analysis/targeting was enabled through MM&T data and intelligent analysis by the Arthian Energy consultant team, working with site Facilities leads and EHS Manager.
Training and upskilling support was provided by Sustainability and Energy Consultants to the on-site team, supporting the development of understanding of the requirements of the ISO 50001 system and further getting an Energy Champions Team trained up and with specific actions and tasks to complete for housekeeping, maintaining good practice and having a feedback mechanism for energy savings opportunities identified by shop floor staff.
Arthian provide both internal auditor training for the in-house team and have supported with delivery of Internal Audits and coaching on-site staff in auditing skills. Improvements are continually identified and implemented, and over time the site has also been guided by the Arthian team to undertake re-baselining (as the savings achieved already demonstrated good practice controls and therefore the next level of ambition in performance was supported.
The Volvo team are supported with monthly site visits and support, with the remit having been expanded from ISO 50001 focus only to also include ISO 14001 environmental management support.
