Senior Occupational Health & Safety Consultant

This position is suited to a highly motivated and driven individual looking to develop their career as a health and safety practitioner. You will support business and service growth, along with technical delivery of health and safety projects.

What the Role Entails

You will work from our one of our offices (Manchester or Glasgow preferred) alongside experienced consultants and engineers and will be permitted to work from home on some occasions. In this instance, you will be provided with IT equipment and software/services require to facilitate your efficient home working.

The position may require travel (including occasional overnight stays) in Ireland, the U.K. and overseas depending on project requirements. A full U.K. or ROI driving licence with clean driver record is required as well as a valid passport and photo ID is required for air travel. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.K. and Republic of Ireland.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and position requirements.

Qualifications

 

As a minimum, the candidate will have an Honours or Masters Degree in occupational health & safety, environmental science, environmental health, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related subject.

Professional chartership(s) and membership of relevant bodies (e.g. Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) would be viewed favourably.

The following are requirements for the role:

 

  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety / National Diploma for Occupational Health & Safety Management Professionals.
  • Demonstratable experience in the practical application of occupational health & safety consultancy or technical practice within industrial and/or construction environments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of health & safety legislation and requirements.

 

The following would also be viewed favourably:

 

  • Knowledge and experience in the development and practical application of occupational health & safety management systems registered to ISO 45001.
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.

 

Experience and Skills

 

For the Senior Consultant role, we would be happy to consider applicants with more than five years’ experience in occupational health and safety consultancy. For Principal roles, we would seek candidates with additional experience.

  • Ability to accurately analyse, and report upon, technical data.
  • Having a growth mindset, with a proactive and resourceful approach
  • Be self-motivated, and able to work under pressure.
  • Prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly.
  • Ability and willingness to learn from experience and take on greater responsibility.
  • Commitment and desire to develop personal CPD.
  • Sound communication and personal effectiveness skills to liaise with colleagues and clients.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel to project sites.

 

What we would like from you:

 

The successful candidate will work as a member of the Health & Safety Team and have the opportunity to lead a variety of projects, which may typically include the following:

  • Occupational health & safety legal compliance audits and inspections, including developing tailored legal registers and prioritised action plans.
  • Legislation-specific (e.g., COSHH, PUWER, Working at Height, Manual Handling) risk assessments and provision of compliance-focused recommendations and support.
  • Provision of on-site occupational health & safety advisory support.
  • Provision of training courses, seminars and workshops to clients at different levels of delivery.
  • Provide marketing and business development support, identifying new clients and opportunities, to support the growth and expansion of the firm.
